We’re so excited to share a new beer we’ve been thinking about and working towards for some time now - introducing Oath, a partially barrel-aged Imperial Stout wherein young, fresh stout was blended with stout aged in Vanilla Brandy and Rye Whiskey barrels for an average of 18 months (the barrel aged thread represents 55% of the blend). Inspired, in a way, by caffè mocha, Oath was conditioned on Ghanaian and Colombian cacao and coffee beans from Timor-Leste. Our friends and family Ashlawn Farm Coffee guided us through a cupping of coffees from the Indonesian archipelago that eventually landed us on a bean that seemed to at once complement and amplify the qualities of the concept. Finally, we leaned on our experience with nitrogenating beer to bring a rich texture and fullness to the beer - rather than bringing in a potentially distracting lactose component. The result is a beer with a depth and intensity of flavor that starts out as decadent but finds balance in its appropriately bitter, roasty finish.
