Was good. Traditional bourbon notes and flavors but true bourbon notes and aromatics appear to be a bit hidden under the other flavors. I can only reference this against bourbon barrel aged coffee which is pure bourbon aromatics along with the coffee.

Ever since I found out my sober brother drinks NA beers here and again, I’ve been seeking out a NA BA stout (since the two us used to dabble in big beers pre-sobriety, ie 2008-2010) to try with him and celebrate in kind. So proud of Max - 11+ years sober!

Zach Attack: Onto the beer review! Obviously can’t justifiably compare this to a traditional BA stout since it’s a NA beer aged in a NA spirit barrel - first of its kind indeed! But the adjuncts used - maple, coffee, and cacao - all pop. Maple intensely on the nose…
Zach Attack: …with more popping on the palate amidst good roast and dark chocolate flavors. There’s a definite woody characteristic with some caramel as well coming out. It’s quite dry, with a thin mouthfeel. But the coffee and maple linger on the finish. Dig it!
Zach Attack: That all said, it’s tough to determine a fair, appropriate rating since this is first time experience and a first of its kind. But I do wish the maple was more subdued, the woodiness popped more, and there was richer malts and body, thus my 4.3.

Heavy chocolate and slight rum aroma off the bat. As it sat, the maple started to come through. Flavor is a blend of the aromas mentioned with some coffee. Good mouthfeel. I think this year's is more balanced in flavor profile than previous versions.
