Grapefruit Hazy IPA by Urbanaut Brewing

Mark Woods is drinking a Grapefruit Hazy IPA by Urbanaut Brewing at Ohakune

Nicely balanced hazy with the expected grapefruit notes but erring towards the juicy and sweet side. A great six pack beer. Definitely not a triple hazy as described though.

Very grassy notes as is typical of a fresh hop brew but other than that largely unremarkable. First Alibi brew that I’ve had that is a “meh”.

Punchy for a Pilsner. Hoppy finish and cleanses the palate nicely. A quality brew.

First Press 8 - Pink Guava Hazy IPA by Urbanaut Brewing

Mark Woods is drinking a First Press 8 - Pink Guava Hazy IPA by Urbanaut Brewing at Ohakune

One if the most pungent beers I’ve ever had. The fruity aroma bursts out if the can as soon as its opened even before I could my nose to the glass. Blueberry and Guava dominate the palate like a liquid bubble gum. More unfiltered than a true hazy

Pretty average really. Watery and thin. Malty but in an unsatisfying way. Seems more like small deck energy to me.

Good old school IPA. Bitter, Piney with a solid malt backbone. A delightful unexpected surprise this one. Recommended.

Quite sweet for a fresh hop. Lime flavours with and an oily body. Not convinced Riwaka is a good fresh hop choice.

Juicy Barbarian by BEERS by Bacon Bros

Quite a dry / drying beer right from the get go. Stonefruit fruitiness that coats the mouth. Tastes stronger than the ABV would suggest.

So Much Noise by Three Sisters Brewery

Mark Woods is drinking a So Much Noise by Three Sisters Brewery at Ohakune

Perhaps not the best choice to start a night on but this makes no attempt to hide its Triple Hazy status. No bitterness to speak of, a syrupy body and boozy flavours that probably over dominates the underlying fruit and citrus notes.

Nice moderate bodied hazy. Orange dominates the palate for me with some general fruitiness underneath. Errs towards the sweeter side.

All the good things in here. Bitter, piney and resinous. Oily mouthfeel with a touch of fruit flavour too. At least as good as the OG Knife Party.

Yeasty head, bitter as hell and strong. The banana comes through as it warms. The original benchmark strong golden ale.

A bit of everything in this one. A drying stonefruit middle, a grassy theme across the top and a light citrus finish. Not bad for a sessionable ABV.

A bit disappointing. Leads with lemon with a little bit of lime too but the grapefruit headline is no where to be seen. Light easy hot summer day drinking but definitely not a grapefruit wheat beer.

Given its lower alABV this beer has an abundance of flavour. Grassy centre with a bitter finish. Sauvin hopped maybe?

Mark Woods is drinking a Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple by Brouwerij Van Steenberge at Ohakune

Pretty much a benchmark quad Belgian. Banana and vanilla aroma. Massive banana flavour with lighter clove notes across the top. The 10.5% ABV really amps up the intensity and it makes nit attempt to hide it booze level. An experience to savour.

Nit normally a Baylands Brewery fan but this one is quite nice so I’m glad I have it a go. Has a lovely oiliness to the body with hoppy flavour throughout. A little bit of malt and a little bit of citrus balances the whole thing out.
