Two things I don’t enjoy in pastry stouts are when they’re overly sweet and too boozy. Unfortunately, this one hits both marks. It’s definitely a drinkable and enjoyable style overall, but a full can of this one feels like too much.

William H: I do like the idea of using roasted almonds — they’re very noticeable here, and that’s a positive. Still, pastry stouts work best for me when they’re rich but balanced — sweet, yes, but not cloying, even when they lean into the dessert side.
