"Black" Agnes Randolph successfully defended the Scottish Castle of Dunbar from a five-month siege by William Montague, the Earl of Salisbury. Black Agnes & her maids repeatedly taunted Montague during the siege. He withdrew June 10, 1338, and later wrote
"She kept a stir in tower and trench,
That brawling, boisterous Scottish wench,
Came I early, came I late
I found Agnes at the gate."
