RIP Hair of the Dog. This is a “In Memoriam Check In.” 12% ABV American Strong Ale that was aged in bourbon and apple eau-de-vie barrels. It was bottled in 2013 and I drank it on Christmas Eve 2014. A lot of boozy caramel with oak and apple brandy.

2022. Probably the last time I ever have Matt. Weather appropriate? Of course not, not when it’s 96 today, but it’s a special beer to be enjoyed on a special day, so why not this one? Oak, smoke, apple touched sweetness, and just about still.

This was fantastic & challenging. The smoked grains wove through the candi sugar & barrel character delicately, accentuating the apple & bourbon flavours of the barrels without being 'too much'. Dark fruity notes of fig, raisin & plum, chocolate & toffee.
