As we sink a little further into our holiday jogging pants and scooch our chairs a bit closer to the fire we promise that we're going to be talking about the holidays for at least the next four weeks.

According to the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) an old ale is an ale of moderate to fairly significant alcoholic strength that is bigger than standard beers, but usually not as strong or rich as barleywine. These beers are also often tilted towards a maltier balance. "It should be a warming beer of the type that is best drunk in half pints by a warm fire on a cold winter's night," writes Michael Jackson, the famed craft beer critic and writer.
