FOR THIS YEARS HOP CITY OFFICIAL BEER WE DECIDED TO INVITE SOME OF THE UP-AND-COMING TALENT OF EUROPE IN THE FORM OF POPIHN, SOMA AND FRAUGRUBER TO JOIN US IN CREATING OUR ANNUAL SALUTATION TO THE HUMBLE HOP.

In the turbulent times we’re living through (as some persist with attempts to sever as many links between us and Europe as they can) we felt it was more important and appropriate than ever to strengthen links with to our friends on the continent and the vibrant beer communities to be found there.

This double IPA showcases HBC 692, one of the most exciting experimental varieties coming through Yakima Chief Ranches’ breeding program. It has an exceptionally high oil content which leads to a really resinous profile with prominent notes of pink grapefruit as well as pine and tropical fruit which make it suited to a wide range of IPA styles. We supported this with the unique pina colada character of Sabro and the signature tropical fruit vibrancy of Citra, both utilised in T90 pellet and CryoTM format.

A total of 32g/l of hopping across whirlpool and dry hop is supported by a New England IPA base loaded with multiple oat formats and some malted wheat; all ideal for building the silkiest and fullest mouthfeel for this juicy double IPA. Read Less

We brewed two imperial NEIPAs with the same intense hop profile but fermented with two different yeast strains. In Organised Chaos we used WLP067 Coastal Haze.

Both beers were dry-hopped with Citra, Galaxy and Sabro, leaving then with tropical and dank notes in the aroma and taste. Read Less

4 way. 4 breweries. Their ideas, their wills, this was always going to be an easy beer to make. Fruity esters from the yeast and citrusy tones from the hops are built on top of a malt body in the aroma, with a fairly pronounced grassy bitterness, reminiscent of a lager. Hopped with Hallertau Blanc, Cascade and Citra keeping traditional lager tones with a modern twist. Read Less

This remarkable NEIPA is fermented using an innovative blend of yeast, which enriches the fruity hop aromas through the biotransformation mechanism of thiols. The main aromas resulting from this process are guava, mango, and citrus. Like typical NEIPAs, this beer is characterized by a cloudy appearance reminiscent of freshly squeezed orange juice. It is also heavily hopped, but with an emphasis on aroma rather than bitterness. Brewed in collaboration with the German brewery Frau Gruber.

The intention of this beer was to create some really cool new age flavors while still attempting to conform to the German Beer purity law "Reinheitsgebot" - We blended a cool "wild" yeast strain in this one with our house yeast. The yeast is supposed to produce mega tropical esters that do well with the fruity flavors of callista, so expect notes of sweet fruit, citrus, caramel cream, and fresh berry.

Enzo and Stephan from FrauGruber came to visit all the way from Bayern, (one of Germany’s best craft brewer’s) so we cooked up a collab, Enzo wanted to make Norwegians happy so we devised a Triple IPA DDH’d with Nelson Sauvin, Cryo Loral and Mosaic hops. We balanced off the 20plato OG beer with a bit of malted oats to smooth the body and added a little dextrose to boost the gravity but not make the beer sweeter than it needs to be to get to 9.3% ABV.
