Le Monstres Du Chateau #1 Chartreuse Barrel Aged Imperial Stout by Bright Brewery

Owen M is drinking a Le Monstres Du Chateau #1 Chartreuse Barrel Aged Imperial Stout by Bright Brewery at Mcivor Road Veterinary Centre

Chartreuse is the pinnacle of herbal liquors and it shines on a relatively safe base stout. Molasses, vanilla and aniseed all very present on the nose. Decent mouthfeel, slightly roasty but the mintiness leaves this feeling strangely refreshing for a BAIS

Sadly a bit of butyric acid going on here! Probably a nice beer underneath that! Great can art.

Really nice example of the style! Having tried many MANY local Aussie versions of XPA this one stands up to the best of them! Clean and zippy, good hit of hops and a dry finish. Love the higher ABV too!

Gueuze (2023) by Brasserie Cantillon

It’s hard to sum up a well made gueuze becuase I’ve never had one without the requisite parts of brightness, acidity, mild wood and floral/sherberty goodness. It’s about balance and this one balanced them all brilliantly.

Man I wish I saw more of this style beer around Japan. Slightly Smokey and tea like profile in a clean pale ale-ish base beer. Slightly cloudy, not a lot of head retention. Made from sake koji and hides 7% very well. Wonderful experience.
