Over seven centuries ago in the northern reaches of modern Germany, a guild of braumeisters had so masterfully honed their craft that the royalty of Bavaria spent decades trying to tempt their members to bring the superior northern method south to Munich. In 1612 they succeeded, and it was that craftsmanship combined with Munich malts and traditions that produced the doppelbock, a style that remains largely unchanged today.
