A bit thin and rough-edged for what should be a smooth unctuous cake stout. Not much cherry on the nose, and not much chocolate on the palate even as it warms.

Rather a lot of raspberry jam here, on a tasty dark malty base that’s a little leathery and not too heavy. A bit of a farmy funk here which I’m not sure how to place… Is that from the port barrels?

The nose is quite malt and on the dry side. The palate has sweet apple juice, vanilla, and a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon. This is tasty! A bit of a sticky finish in the corner of the mouth but not cloying or oversweet.

Never heard of this brewery from HK but love a Bock, so… Pours beautiful: darkish brown body, off-white head that lasts. There’s a really unfortunate sour note suggesting infection, and it is about to spoil this bottle for me.
Malt Does More: It’s a mild sourness, but it impacts the whole impression and just shouldn’t be there in a Doppelbock.
Malt Does More: Pretty clear from the carbonation in this beer / bottle that there’s something wild in there that should not be there. Head regenerates to monster levels on swirling.

Big coffee on the nose, both roasty and beany with hints of cream, all of this backburnering the scotch ale malty base. Nevertheless, it works. It’s coffee first here, and the wee heavy is lost, but it’s a nice beer.
Malt Does More: I take that back. As this warms, the balance between adjunct and base gets a bit better.
This reminds me of The Fillings Are Mutual (Mortalis x Other Half collab) but less sweet. Actually tastes like concentrated ribena.
