Quite the beauty with lots of dark roastiness and lots of sweetness merging into one tongue. Maple syrup keeps it sweet, but the base RIS ensures it remains dark and bitter. Without the base, this would be too sweet. For me, at least.

A very dark and roasty stout, as we would expect from Weathered souls. After drinking half of this, I decided to go all FlandersNed and added some Woodford Reserve bourbon to finish the beer.

Intense chocolate and booziness. Sweet and drying on the tongue. Tasty, but takes a while to drink. Engentled a little by the vanilla.

I’m not a fan of American barleywines, and this is no exception. Sure there is sweetness here, but the bitterness always wins. But a beautiful dark ruby liquor. Quite dazzling. But I can’t taste colors.

A rich mixture of stouts and barleywines which (of course) are aged in bourbon and cognac barrels along with honey and lactose. A bit intense, but a tasty brew that is keeping me awake at night, because it has the flavors I need. 2024 maltage. Success.

Definitely strong at at 18.94 percent, but what keels me from finishing it is that it is so sweet. Not terrible at all. But I can’t drink this much sweetness in one sitting. A rich boozy nose, on the tongue sweet but with a bit of roughness that helps.

A fine little porter, even if a little stronger than the usual porter. Good roasts, some sweetness, and noticeable cocoa.

Much roastier than other iterations of this stout. So dark, it presents as a rauchbier. Still, there is a stream of sweetness slipping under the darkness and keeping us from falling into the full beautiful darkness of this ale.

A little less crazy than the usual River North stout, and it is a tasty brew, with beautiful barreling and a rich and heavy and chocolaty base stout. It still takes time to drink this hefty beauty.

A usual stout from River North: lots of cocoa-y roasts, high ABV (this time, a mere 16.6%), and lots of weight on the brew, some barrel-aging, yet still accessible, and tasty.

A dark stoutlike liquor. A barleywine with lots of roast and surliness. & I expected this to be sweet but it is not. Rough bitterness is the major flavor. A little sweetness comes in, maybe from the inconsequential barrel. I can’t finish it. 2024.

Just a gentle 17.58% ABV porter, just like your great-great-grandfather used to drink. Quite intense for a porter, not a “small beer” at all. Yet fairly accessible to an “intense beer guy” like me. Too strong for what it is, but I like it.

Hey, I don’t really need cake in my beer. Otherwise, this isn’t a bad beer, but would have been better without cake. But I could drinks it all. Tho slowly.

A disappointment. Cashmere hops wedded with phantasm powder (not a favorite of mine, but worsened when married to cashmere, which does have its place as a hops) gives us a dullness. This is sweet and mushy almost as if hops did not exist.

A rough and boozy stout with little finesse. Not back but mostly chalky stout roughness.

An intense beer that requires patience and fortitude for one to finish it. Lots of cocoa-ish roasts and sweetness, yet still very roasty always, and heavy on the tongue. A barrel aging regimen too complex to understand on the tongue. A fine anniversary.

Lots of hazelnut and coffee and sweetness. Too much of the last for me.

A stout with medium body. Lots of raspberry on the tongue. That comes first followed by chocolate. The barrel notes are bare whiffs, not much at all. But the beer holds together well, even as quite a bit of sweetness comes off the top every raspberry sip.

A very tart brew, which is good to have after a long time without one. A yellow-orange liquor. The nose is gentle with a tiny hint of maltiness. The brew is clean and enticing for those who like lemony sourness. Packaged 2023-10-03. Batch number 177.
