Nose is very mature, dark char, port, Raisinets, spiced date, molasses. Taste adds a punch of zippy caramelized red grape that has a tang & tingle to it before deepenng and exhaling maple nougatty port decadence, even w some Madagascar caviar. Warming.

Damn that really is a delicious beer & not just the ba version either. I avoided this for years thinking it was an xmas spiced quad or something. The phenols are tempered, spicy but accenting, like pink peppercorn over some pear, honeysuckle & white wine.

Shane: Hint of lime or gin botanical softened by a honey graham malt. Such a soft and lifting mouthfeel.

A more serious review than at DLD, this year's is more mature & balanced, perhaps w their barrels getting more time under their belt, imparting pleasant smoothing vanillin & mild char while the cinnamon is softly dusty & savory not spicy. Delicious still.

💛❤️ that HoFro's tributing Schlenkerla w their characteristic push for more oomph while also staying well shy of 15%. Nose is spot on Bamberg tradition, solid but measured woody smoke w sweet brown autumnal malts. Taste mirrors well w a pleasantly sweet

Shane: nutty malt that's a little toasty and also hinting at maple, while playfully, deliciously crisp and vibrant on the palate. A hair shy of Wooly's but a very enjoyable and worthy tribute to Bamberg.
Shane: Smoke stays tempered and balanced like last night's campfire on your jacket. Actually the more I drink, the more appropriate the contrast of the sweeter malt feels.

Shane is drinking a Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel by Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan at Jester Kane Flowhouse
A bit of a darker hefe in Weihenstaphaner's case, like a banana bread but w a wheat or even pumpernickel base, but a slightly more bitter contrast, almost grassy, but also plenty spiced. Hint of bubblegum at times? But also savory & fulfilling. Soft froth
