Shayne had a rough day at work so we got a nine year old imperial stout out of the cellar. Six years in bourbon barrels, three years in the depths of the beer fridge. Super boozy bourbony, molasses malts. Getting a bit of acid with age, not a bad thing.
Phil is drinking a Wieken & Krieken by Brouwerij de Molen at Cobar St
Rodenbach collab! Basically a blend of a Rodenbach Flanders red with a nice de Molen barleywine. Good cherry cranberry flavours also. Great stuff.
Purchased at Mixtape Brewing and Bar
Phil is drinking a Goes To 11 by Wayward Brewing at Cobar St
New hop I haven't tried before called Amplifire. A bit chalky but much nicer than galaxy. Kind of oily savoury. Nice.
Phil is drinking an Air Ann by Mountain Culture Beer Co. at Cobar St
Mosaic & simcoe but also some obscure anchovy hops. Quite a good grapefruity no coaster thanks to the WC hops.
Phil is drinking an Old Money (2021) by Stockade Brew Co at Cobar St
This has cellared really well. Smooth, sweet, umami, stacks of well concealed booze. A real treat. Why people bother with pastry stouts when you could make something like this is beyond me.
Purchased at The Stockade Barrel Room

Phil is drinking an One Drop Pastry Stout by Seeker Brewing at Cobar St
Pastry stouts are always too sweet for me. This is a quality thing if you are into the style but I'd rather drink an Old Money.

Phil is drinking a Banks Oat Cream TIPA by Seeker Brewing at Cobar St
Mmmmmm, magical! Really good triple neipa. Sweet and fruity up front, boozy finish.
Phil is drinking a Trigo Wheat Wine by Mountain Goat Beer at Cobar St
Doesn't have a super wheaty peachy taste but quite a nice malty Belgian ale.
Purchased at Mountain Goat Newtown
Phil is drinking a Cross Roads by Akasha Brewing Company at Cobar St
Good Folk collab. Good amber colour, nice malts, an unexpectedly light hopping. Has a clean flavour with faint pithy finish.
Purchased at Gladstone Hotel
Phil is drinking a Juice Trip by Mountain Culture Beer Co. at Cobar St
Tropical fruit juice NEIPA. I think this sort of thing works best when it's a single fruit -- this is a bit of a jumble flavour wise. It's nice enough but not as good as say their Cult IPA.
Purchased at Gladstone Hotel
Phil: I'm okay with stuff like pink grapefruit juice, that kind of works. Otherwise fruit juice is best used trying to make a kettle sour drinkable.
Phil is drinking a Cherry Sour by Principle Brewing at Cobar St
Genuinely one of the best Aussie kettle sours. A better balance of base beer to malt to fruit than most.
Phil is drinking an Aftermath by KAIJU! Beer at Cobar St
Grass & honey, savoury. One of the very best west coasters.
Purchased at Gladstone Hotel
Phil is drinking a Sense Check by Mountain Culture Beer Co. at Cobar St
McKenzie hops which are new to me. Herbal grassy flavours, good times. Some mosaic sweetness also.
Phil is drinking a Sir Thomas Porter by Block ‘n Tackle Brewery at Cobar St
Mild porter, more like a brown ale. Choco malt flavours, little in the way of roastiness or bittering hops.
Phil is drinking a Blacksmith Black IPA by Akasha Brewing Company at Cobar St
Phil is drinking a Bistrampolio Dvaro Šviesusis / Bistrampolio Dvaro Light / Muižas Gaišais Alus by Aukštaitijos Bravorai at Cobar St
Mild Lithuanian lager, no lager yeast taste, lots of sweet malt. Pretty nice. The bottle is ideal for indoor plants that can grow in water.
Purchased at Just Liquor Cellars
Phil is drinking a Rose Noire by Beer Fontaine at Cobar St
Nice chewy whisky barrel stout. Good balance of whisky flavour vs imperial stout base -- doesn't overdo it with the whisky.
Purchased at Beer Fontaine
It's Korben, it's a classic, it's like getting smashed in the face with a jar of grapefruit marmalade.
