Request a DemoBenjamin Luk is drinking a Kaleidoscope Mosaic IPA by Phillips Brewing & Malting Co. at Benjamin Luk Photography
Imagine a session IPA with more body and you'd have this. The nose is a delight too, like Teddy Grahams and melon. Six-packs, please?
Benjamin Luk is drinking a Crane Kick by Parallel 49 Brewing Company at Benjamin Luk Photography
Simple, but with a tongue-coating bitter finish. The same finish then provides a subtle lift of sweet malt. Above average.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a 15th Anniversary Ale by Lighthouse Brewing Co. at Benjamin Luk Photography
This is Race Rocks amped up; sweeter, thicker, boozier. An improvement for sure, but a bit cloying for me to be a complete fan.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a Stag Apple Scotch Ale by Tin Whistle Brewing Co at Benjamin Luk Photography
Apples (duh!) and heavily salted caramel. Could be described as undrinkable by some. I'm not a big fan either.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a Black Label Supreme 8.0% by Carling at Benjamin Luk Photography
My excuse is I found this six-pack at a bus stop. What's your excuse?
Aaron Senetza: Awesome!
Jeremy Dyson: If you found a beer with the word "extreme", you'd have to try it too. Thanks for taking one for the team.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a You Say Barley,We Say Rye by R&B Brewing at Benjamin Luk Photography
A lingering metallic note makes for an irritating finish and the slight fruit on the entry isn't enough to stand up to it. Almost decent.
Benjamin Luk is drinking an Uncle Monty's Best Bitter by Granville Island Brewing at Benjamin Luk Photography
A bit difficult to distinguish from a macro offering. Hoppier by only the slightest degree and really quite neutral. Some fruit on the nose.
Benjamin Luk is drinking The Abyss (2012) by Deschutes Brewery at Benjamin Luk Photography
Opens with more fruit than I remember, then dissipates into an pervasive oily smokiness. Lacks the finesse of Parabola. Overhyped, for sure.
Jonathan Evans: Wow. I like Parabola over this too, but bold statements.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a Nautical Disaster by Russell Brewing Company at Benjamin Luk Photography
The key thing to note is this is an English Barleywine, not a North American one. Thinner, not as boozy, slightly more acidic. Not my thing.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a Humphrey Biere De Garde by Parallel 49 Brewing Company at Benjamin Luk Photography
Rides a very fine line between gulpable and stiff, and pulls it off magnificently. I'm impressed, though this is more conservative in style.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a BLP: Aperture Amber by Doan's Craft Brewing Company at Benjamin Luk Photography
This seems to be getting more and more delicious with time. You guys will have to wait for Batch No. 2 to try it though. My keg's done.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a Ginja Ninja by Granville Island Brewing at Benjamin Luk Photography
Smells like ginger ale (as in the soda) and somehow tastes way more bland. May as well just give me the soda. It'd be better.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a BLP: Aperture Amber by Doan's Craft Brewing Company at Benjamin Luk Photography
Balanced malt and fruit on the nose now, but huge raspberry on the finish. Kinda cool to see this evolve as it cold conditions.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a Bottle Rocket ISA by Phillips Brewing & Malting Co. at Benjamin Luk Photography
This one doesn't taste as fresh to me. Wondering if it died on the shelf.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a Furious Friar Belgian IPA by Dead Frog Brewery at Benjamin Luk Photography
I'll just come right out and say it: I don't like Belgian IPA. This doesn't help matters. Most taste like a sort of hair product. This too.
Matt: Would you consider Anchorage White IPA a Belgium?
Benjamin Luk: That one's so weird, I can't make up my mind. It's certainly not a traditional Belgian IPA. It's a hybrid of many styles, even Fruit Beer.
Benjamin Luk is drinking an Oyster Stout by Upright Brewing Company at Benjamin Luk Photography
Has a lighter marine note to it, like fresh shells as opposed to savoury oyster. A complex finish rounds out an already amazing brew.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a Goldtooth Berliner Weisse by Howe Sound Brewing at Benjamin Luk Photography
I had high hopes, but perhaps I was expecting something more outside the box. Well made, but unlikely to blow you away. Simple, slammable.
Benjamin Luk is drinking a Commander Reserve (2013) by Dead Frog Brewery at Benjamin Luk Photography
Notes of chocolate cake and bacon. Maybe the best thing Dead Frog's ever done? (I'm as surprised as you are.)
j: Don't forget liquorice. Got one in againg...
Benjamin Luk is drinking a London Town by Howe Sound Brewing at Benjamin Luk Photography
I'm no malt expert, but there's something "green" about this unlike anything I've tasted before. Lacking a strong finish, but chuggable.
Ian Lloyd: Does it taste like a Jolly Rancher candy?
Benjamin Luk: It tastes like young malt. Is that a thing? That's gotta be a thing.
The yeast choice lends depth to this bottle conditioned ale. Some hints at fruit, but funk and hops play a leading role. Caramel apple nose.
