Disappointing. The barley wine itself was on the citrusy side, now with the cognac aging it has really just become rather flat and sour. Saulter may have to re-think its Krampus strategy, the last few have not impressed.

Just too bitter coffee for me. The suggested pairing of vanilla ice cream actually works well in cutting the bitterness, but I'd have preferred they integrated that vanilla creaminess into the beer itself.

Now this is how you do a chocolate stout. 3 kinds of chocolate give it the punch of a chocolate milkshake, while the bitter hint of 10% alcohol reminds you that it's not for kids. A bit more lactose and this would be a classic.

I wanted to like this more than I did. The head had a nice milk chocolate nose. But the body was more chocolate milk than stout, with an odd...maybe metallic?...tinge. Perhaps a darker beer requires a darker chocolate.

Roman Kotovych is drinking a Busted Sled Gingerbread Stout by Big Rig Brewery
Not bad. Spices are there, nothing really overwhelms, nothing really stands out. I would have expected more ginger, or gingerbread, but it really sort of falls back into a generic "winter" stout. Certainly drinkable, but forgettable.
