Vocation by Yakima Pilsner

Neil A. is drinking a Yakima Pilsner by Vocation at Dunbar East Beach

Exceptional hops: floral more than fruity. Can’t honestly say I’d have identified it as Pilsner. Brilliant pale ale, lager, whatever.

Duvel Moortgat by Vedett Extra Ordinary IPA

Neil A. is drinking a Vedett Extra Ordinary IPA by Duvel Moortgat at Dunbar East Beach

Interesting beer. Pale, fizzy, distinctly Belgian (the yeast?). Floral more than hoppy. Not IPA but pleasant and moreish.

Guinness by Guinness Milk Stout

Neil A. is drinking a Guinness Milk Stout by Guinness at Dunbar East Beach

Not the biggest fan of milk stout but this is decent. Not too sweet, a little bitter and distinct choc notes.

Belhaven Brewery by Twisted Thistle IPA

Neil A. is drinking a Twisted Thistle IPA by Belhaven Brewery at Dunbar East Beach

First one in a long time, and first time I’ve tried the can. Surprisingly good. Great bitterness and subtle fruitiness. New recipe maybe?

Pilot by Blønd

Tasty but too cold.

Stewart Brewing by Dakota

Neil A. is drinking a Dakota by Stewart Brewing at The Booking Office (Wetherspoon)

Forgot I’d had this before and thought it poor. Not at all hoppy, not even a decent example of British brown.

Top Out Brewery by Staple

Neil A. is drinking a Staple by Top Out Brewery at Station yard

Pleasant biscuity backbone made this a little different to many brewers’ standard pale. Nice. First in Dunbar’s newest pub. Cheers!

Purchased at Station yard

Black Sheep by Riggwelter

Neil A. is drinking a Riggwelter by Black Sheep

Rich and sickly. Everything I remember of strong ale in my youth. Sure this is great for some but not me. Couldn’t finish a 500ml bottle.

Robinsons Brewery by Trooper Hallowed

Neil A. is drinking a Trooper Hallowed by Robinsons Brewery at Bannerman's

Not a bad impression of a Belgian dubbel but have had far better, both Brutush and Belgian.

Purchased at Bannerman's

Jaw Brew by 7 Bells

Neil A. is drinking a 7 Bells by Jaw Brew at Bannerman's

Roast chocolate, a bit sweet though. Probably would enjoy better on keg. A bit flat on cask.

Purchased at Bannerman's

Edinbrew by Super Stout

Neil A. is drinking a Super Stout by Edinbrew at The Booking Office (Wetherspoon)

Thin, malty, insipid. More like 80 shilling. Remarkable how you can make such a dull beer at just under 5%.

Purchased at The Booking Office (Wetherspoon)

Cross Borders Brewing Company by Autumn

Neil A. is drinking an Autumn by Cross Borders Brewing Company at Volunteer Arms

Glad I sampled this without buying. Not my taste. Malty blandness, not helped by me having a strong bitter immediately prior.

Purchased at Volunteer Arms

Orkney Brewery by 1878

Neil A. is drinking a 1878 by Orkney Brewery at Volunteer Arms

Pretty bitter for a Scotch Ale I'd say. More like an Extra Yorkshire Bitter. Pretty tasty but heavy going for more than a couple.

Purchased at Volunteer Arms

Guinness by West Indies Porter

Neil A. is drinking a West Indies Porter by Guinness at Dunbar East Beach

Nice bitter chocolate flavour, tan head. Prefer the Foreign Extra though.
