Ok, the effort that went into this Dutch barleywine is just nuts. At least four barrels, mostly classic American whiskeys but going beyond. The result is incredible. Solid viscosity. Deep, complex, and rich — but not remotely self-important. Just superb.

Light bodied, but I’ll happily look past that for the existence of a slightly insane sour and smokey BA stout. I honestly don’t know how this German brewery gets away with these shenanigans, but I’m glad they do.

Spices and well-modulated pepper lead, rounded a bit by the grapes, followed by a dry finish that hovers above without concluding the show. What a fabulous variation on a Harrie.

A knockout NZ IPA from Jopen. Great nose and a deep, bright flavor profile centered on mango and — according to the brewer, and I can believe — gooseberry. Bright and super smooth.
