Hill Farmstead Brewery by Society & Solitude #9

Cantaloupe orange and a perfect creamy tiny-bubbled head that almost refuses to die. Tropical hops and even a whiff of unexpected coconut on the nose. More reserved on the tongue: a humming bitterness leaning fruity, held in balance, the proto-NEIPA pure.

Karen says, Hoppy happy. I say, Sweet sweet tropical nose that has nothing on the tongue, though the latter hums with good hops, enough to make the sweet a good thing.

Jack's Abby Craft Lagers by Heavy Trommel

Lots of roast, but not burning bitter, though certainly bitter. A dark kellerbier alternating between its dark core and a far-off but always close lagerness.

They tell me there is chocolate and I can perceive a ghost of this. But this is otherwise just a blankets of coconut over a malty roasted was sweetened into submission.

Nicely roasty but very sweet. The roast a bit off and pinchy.

Nod Hill Brewery by Super Mantis

Karen says, Yes! (A nod to the word “nod,” Karen says.) I say, incredibly urinous nose but more simply sweet on the tongue.

Bruery Terreux by Frucht: Passion Fruit (2018)

Geof H. is drinking a Frucht: Passion Fruit (2018) by Bruery Terreux at Clinton Hall FiDi

Orange liquor and sourness erupting from its surface. A purified passionfruit flavor to it, d VOID of sweetness. Tasty and rough.

Mikkeller Brewing NYC by #Bro!MoreMango

Geof H. is drinking a #Bro!MoreMango by Mikkeller Brewing NYC at Clinton Hall FiDi

Karen says, Mangoriffic. I say, Orange in color. A nose of full hops. A tongue of hard-core bitter hops and generic fruitiness the color of mango. Lots of clumps of yeast that eventually rest in a Mubarak of yeast at the bottom of the glass.

Hermit Thrush Brewery by Gin Barrel Saison

An unexpected medium brown liquor. A subdued tart nose. The tongue differs with the nose: tart but rich with unknown maltish flavors. Maybe a bit of gin in here, but what I get from the barrelling is deep woodiness, which works well with the tartness.

Plan Bee Farm Brewery by Barn Beer

Light yellow-orange liquor fuzzed with bubbles. A yeasted tart erupts into the nose. A beautiful yeasty lemony tartness. Another wonder from Plan Bee.

Karen says, Orangetastic. I say, Orangina! Dark orange liquor. Nose all orange hard candy. A sweet hoppy orange on the tongue. Good rough hops but ok orangey.

Founders Brewing Co. by Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2019)

Geof H. is drinking a Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2019) by Founders Brewing Co. at Clinton Hall FiDi

Almost black, rimmed with a few slight bubbles. Nose is dark sweetness. Sweet chocolate and roasty dark booziness coats the tongue. Still some whiskey slips in soft and sure. Though hugely boozy. Deepens as it warms but the rough booziness does not entice

Bellwoods Brewery by Bring Out Your Dead

Geof H. is drinking a Bring Out Your Dead by Bellwoods Brewery at Ocean Luxury Residences

Dark still liquor, headless. Deep dark sweet pruny nose. Heavy thick pruny sweet molasses tongue. The cognac barreling gives it a sharp booziness. An intense overwrought brew, but carrying its own outrageous form of deliciousness. Sip it a bit at a time.

Purchased at Delaware Supply

Platform Beer Company by Symon Says Haze

Geof H. is drinking a Symon Says Haze by Platform Beer Company at Bar Symon

Hazy yellow liquor that’s leaning slightly orange. A surprisingly creamy medium-bubble head. Certainly a NEIPA, though not one of the greats. Gentle fruity hops, maybe pineapple, with a gentle but firm bitterness. Refreshing.
