You know that slightly funky fruit smell you get in old school grocery stores and fruit stands? Where you know the fruit is okay, just really, really ripe? It's better than it sounds. I also get a little chili pepper on the finish, perhaps?

The smoke notes are pretty light, more on the palate than the nose. Good, since too much smoke in a beer can be overpowering.

Thank goodness, I was worried. Porters can get so cloyingly sweet. A Dry Porter is good to find.
