Tran's Son is drinking a Natural Union by Jester King Brewery
What a label... I was hoping it would be a bit more sour, but all the herbal notes come through nicely. These guys can really make a saison.
Dustin L.: Nice pull

Tran's Son is drinking a Holy Honey Red by Best Life Brewing
Nice sweetness from the honey. Hops are mellow in this version, so I'm looking forward to trying the Nelson Dry Hop! Well done boys.
Tran's Son is drinking an Abbey Ale With Handlebar Coffee by Telegraph Brewing Company at Intermezzo Bar + Cafe
What a trippy idea. These flavors are unexpectedly BEAUTIFULLY complimentary. Way better than most "Blonde Stouts" or "Coffee Lagers", etc.
Tran's Son is drinking a Stock Porter by Telegraph Brewing Company at Soho Restaurant & Music Club
A fine beer to mark my return to Santa Barbara! Roasty, with a very unique complexity from the Belgian yeast. Very nice indeed
Matt H.: Welcome back!

Tran's Son is drinking a Three Philosophers (2011) by Brewery Ommegang
This is the way beer is supposed to age. Tastes exactly the same, and yet it is distinctly smoother, with a nice mellow heat. I want more.
Earned the Photogenic Brew (Level 36) badge!
Matt H.: Different label! 3 philosophers is my go-to beer recommendation for gifts or dinner contributions.

Tran's Son: A gracious guest you are indeed.
Fri, 24 Apr 2015 15:52:23 +0000
Matt H.: Well if I'm the one bringing it I'd get more creative, but when I'm asked for a recommendation I usually say you can't go wrong with 3P's.
Fri, 24 Apr 2015 17:50:21 +0000
Tran's Son: Ah, yes. I only bring 3 Philosophers to dinner if it's old enough to enroll in Kindergarten.

Tran's Son is drinking a Three Philosophers (2012) by Brewery Ommegang
Cherries are still super prominent here, and the carb is still good. This has really aged beautifully.
Tran's Son is drinking a Heavy Machinery Double IPA by Austin Beerworks
Technically, I can't tell what beer this is, but it sure screams DIPA. Love the can copy, and the beer ain't half bad either!
Earned the I Believe in IPA! (Level 48) badge!
Tran's Son is drinking a R&R Rye IPA by Bike Dog Brewing Company at Bike Dog Brewing Co.
This one I'm not so keen on. Lots of flavors muddled together here: grass, soap, seaweed, and indiscernable fruity stuff. No likey.
Tran's Son: Britt seems to like it, at least!

Tran's Son is drinking a DIPA by Bike Dog Brewing Company at Bike Dog Brewing Co.
My first Bike Dog beer, and it's a hands down home run! Floral without seeming shampooey. Slightly sweet with a beautiful golden hue.
Earned the New Brew Thursday (Level 10) badge!
Kevin M.: Is there a brand of shampooey that I should steer clear of?

Tran's Son is drinking an Even More Jesus (2015) by Evil Twin Brewing
I don't think I'm gonna share this fine 'gnac with y'all, cuz your minds' ain't open an your hearts' ain't ready.
Tran's Son: Super smooth mouthfeel with very little carb. Looking forward to aging this, though, as it is little bit hot, and astringently roasty.

Tran's Son is drinking an Eliza5beth Midwest Farmhouse Ale by Prairie Artisan Ales
Nice blend of bright lemon and funky Brett flavors. Great carb and mouthfeel, just a damn refreshing sour.
Earned the Liquid Lunch badge!
Kevin M.: Big fan

Tran's Son is drinking a Dark Seas (2014) by Mission Brewery
Super roasty! Nice full herbal barley flavor, sweet but not cloying. Slightly chalky mouthfeel. Really great.
Earned the Heavy Weight (Level 39) badge!
Tran's Son: Almost 4 1/2! So much better than the BA version.

Tran's Son: This sucker is priced to move and ages well too!

Tran's Son is drinking a Wild Sierra Saison by Mammoth Brewing Company
Trying to relive my Yosemite memories from last weekend... This one's not quite as nice as it seemed around the campfire.
Earned the Photogenic Brew (Level 35) badge!
Tran's Son: Don't get too much of the sage in there. Love the idea, but it comes off sort of like standard, boring old Hennepin-style mouthy saison.

Tran's Son: High-ass bear wants your picnic basket.

Tran's Son is drinking a Tiger Baby: Open Windows Open Hills by Mikkeller at Pangaea Bier Cafe
This beer really surprised me. Fruit flavors are deliciously forward, yet subtle, by which I mean there is basically no hoppiness/bitterness
Tran's Son: Was this beer made without hops?? Very interesting.
Wed, 22 Apr 2015 01:54:06 +0000
Kevin M.: I think you liked it better than I did

Tran's Son: I'm a sucker for Passionfruit, it's true. You have it on tap or from the bottle?

Tran's Son is drinking a Grapefruit Hopsauce by Rubicon Brewing Co. at Rubicon Brewing Co.
Odd burnt flavor brings the malt component too much into the spotlight, I think. Not a huge hop flavor, and the grapefruit can't do it alone
