Pepe C. is drinking a Squib Cakes (Batch 2) by Odd Breed Wild Ales at Gula
A complex & layered wild ale bursting with loads of overripe blueberries. The fruit is layered alongside a sharp, but balanced acetic acidity. Slightly tannic. Notes of damp cellar, wet wood & hay funk add nuance. A soft salinity ties it all together.
Pepe C. is drinking a Monterey Purple by Cellador Ales at El Rito
A soft & easy drinking sour with plums, kiwis, guava & cherries blending together over a mellow tart base. A slight farmhouse funk adds complexity. Slightly tannic. Acidity is restrained & plays well with the fruit, without detracting drinkability.
Pepe C. is drinking a Mexican Mocha Shake by Mikkeller Brewing San Diego at El Rito
The base stout is rich & saturated with melted chocolate & dark espresso beans. The nutmeg & cinnamon add an interesting spicy, almost festive, kick. Barrel is dripping with bourbon & dry wood. Finishes with a long boozy warmth & slight chili heat.
Pepe C. is drinking a Hypnos by Mortalis Brewing Company at El Rito
A pastry bomb of a stout with loads of fudgy & creamy chocolate, toasted hazelnuts, sweet vanilla, toasted coconut & fresh coffee. Incredibly thick & velvety. Gives off Hershey’s syrup & Nutella impressions. Adeptly executed in taste but cloyingly sweet.
This is all you could want in a barrel aged stout. Notes: dark chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, molasses, hint of cherry. Barrel: toasted wood, bourbon, spice, vanillin. Body: dense, rich, silky. Finish: long, complex, warming. Love the 8 oz can!
