Cascade, centennial, and azacca hops lead the way to a less bitter than usual pale ale. Flavors range from tangerine zest, berries, to floral and woody. Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout, aged in The Nations (West Nashville) Pennington Distillery Whiskey Barrels. This beer pushes up to the legal limit of our beer permit at 10% ABV. Notes of vanilla and oak, with a dry lingering chocolate finish. Slight booze notes, but no overbearing fusel flavor or aroma. This is Spinal Stout is the result of many years of friendship centered around music and beer. Erik Lutkins and Chris Rueger were MTSU Recording Industry major classmates with Sean, and, both Chris and Erik were home brewing long before Sean started. When Sean started brewing in 2009 the three discussed the idea of collaborating on a beer, but they could never figure out an angle for what to brew. Come 2016 Chris obtained a 15 gallon Corsair Triple Smoke barrel and suggested a big stout. Over the course of a few pints at Filling Station East the three wrote the recipe for “Goes to 11”, a nod to their MTSU Recording Industry roots and the importance of “This is Spinal Tap” in their education. All three teamed up for one of the last brews at Sean’s house (March 2016), and the resulting beer beer took bronze in the 2017 Music City Brew Off. Read Less
