Why Brown Ales Deserve More Thumbs Up

Responsive image

While Brown Ales may not be considered the sexiest style out there, these beers should immediately take you back to some of the best you've ever had. And in the latest episode of the Drinking Socially podcast, hosts Harrison Hickock and Jon Dispenza are going to tell you why!

They're hoping to get you to think about the humble brown with an open mind while diving into the "Bravo For Brown" badge. There are a lot of brown colored beers out there - Porters, English Milds, Dubbles, Abbey Bruins, etc. But, the term Brown Ale actually dates all the way back to the 17th century. It fell out of favor for a long time until Newcastle Brown Ale became popular overseas, and eventually Petes Wicked Ale here in the States established a new kind of Brown — The American Brown Ale.

So open up your mind and quaff some of the best browns around from Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale to Rogue's Hazelnut Brown Nectar to Dogfish Head's Indian Brown, and more.

Give Brown Ales the recognition they deserve and tune in to this week's episode of Drinking Socially on YouTube or listen wherever you grab your favorite podcasts.
