Trending Beers to Kick Off December!
Folks, we're in the final stretch of 2020: a year of seeking out silver linings.
"At least we have beer".
I'd put money on that being the most common phrase in 2020.
The spirit of Winter is upon us and with that comes ADVENT BEER BOXES, a month-long activity the beer community goes bonkers over. A standard advent beer box comes with 25 mystery beers that you can enjoy unboxing and checking-in to new-to-you beers every day! Our very own Drinking Socially hosts, Jon & Harrison, are doing their own advent beer calendars. Follow along with their daily unboxing shenanigans on Twitter.
With all that said, I took a look at the top trending beers checked-in during the first week of December and just as I suspected, our top 10 trending beers so far are nearly all straight from the popular advent calendars this year (you'll see some one-off goodies peppered in the list too). Without further ado, let's take a look at what's popping so far in December!
10. Negu Berria by Laugar Brewery
Today it is a short journey after Portugal, towards the Basque coast for a 'New Winter'. This is the translation of the name of our beer of the day - Negu Berria. It's a Brown Ale, brewed in collaboration between breweries Laugar and Gross. Once your beer has been poured, take a moment to smell it slowly and quietly. A generous and rich hazelnut aroma meets you, with milk chocolate and a hint of vanilla. Negu Berria is surprisingly light, and drinks easily. In addition to clear hazelnut and chocolate, you can taste a hint of caramel. Finally, sherry has been used in brewing, adding that link to this popular drink so typical for this region. Source.
Your Check-Ins to Negu Berria
Aha, here we see the advent beer box. Looks like day 3 popped out this little number, Negu Berria from Laugar Brewery, a nice brown ale coming in at 6.7% ABV!

Shout out for featuring an Untappd glass! I spy an empty wine glass in the background...looks like a good time!
9. Turbo Prop by Propeller Bier
The turbo prop comes into the can. Especially for the brewer's advent calendar this beer got filled up into the can. The Imperial Pils from the Propeller increases the beer style Pilsener in every way. More alcohol, more hops, more of everything. Pils with turbo. From the light malt come honey notes and the full-bodied and soft mouthfeel. The German hops Hercules (for the bitterness) and Sapphire (for the flavors) are typical for a Pils, in the Turbo Prop some Citra hops as added in a cold-hopping process.

Now this is a cool can design. I'm a sucker for great can art. I'm also extremely fascinated by this game console featured here. Very 90s and I'm here for it. Anything to take us away from 2020.

Velvety chocolate. Fantastic especially for the price.
It doesn't appear that this beer was featured in any advent beer calendar, but this looks smooth as sin. YUM!

Advent calendar #1. Fresh, fruity and slightly sweet. Citrus notes and a smooth finish. A slight creaminess in the mouth.

5. Graminger Kirta by Graminger Weissbräu
The dark Kirta Weissbier was originally created as a Festbier for the Altöttinger Kirta. The addition of dark malt and roasted malt results in a rich mahogany color and a fruity, malty flavor. Adept beer tasters will even notice a slight hint of chocolate! The Kirta white beer goes perfectly with hearty dishes with dark sauces, such as roast beef, grilled beef loin, beer goulash, obatzter and chocolate desserts. The Kirta is a cloudy, orange beer with a small, white head. The aroma is mostly roasted malt, as well as a light fruitiness. The taste is sweet, malty and slightly fruity.

Smell that banana! Spicy clove and sweet tea malt. Hazy dark amber. Fluffy cream colored head flattens quickly but leaves a film. Warm spice at back of throat and soft, clean mouthfeel.
This beer is very important...banana...spicy clove...and smells of rich mahogany.

First time back on untapped in a while. Starting off with one from a German beer advent calendar I got as a birthday gift. Roasty taste, similar to a brown ale but a little darker, overall solid.
Welcome back to the party!
3. Käuzle by Kauzen-Bräu

2. Fürst Carl Kellerbier by Schlossbrauerei Ellingen
This is how the brewers like to drink their beer: directly from the storage tank. The beer is cloudy, stronger in smell and taste and full-bodied due to the natural components of the ingredients, which this beer contains. Source.

If you're cruising through an advent beer box this December, what's the best beer you've tried so far? Tag me in your check-in and I'll spread some holiday cheer on your feed! Till next time, cheers.
