The Top 10 Breweries With the Most Beers Created in 2023

Responsive image

Presented by Stone Brewing

We're kicking off our Delicious Year in Beer coverage with a super fun stat! That's right, we calculated the breweries with the most beers created on Untappd in 2023.* We introduced this stat last year to much fanfare, so we're bringing it back. Because at the end of the day, Untappd would be nothing without you! (Literally, it would be "ntappd"). 🤣 But seriously, you are the most important part of our community, which is why we work so hard every year at the end of the year to bring you these incredible stats.

And ICYMI: Check out your personal Year in Beers stats here

Can you guess which brewery lands at number one?

The answer may or may not surprise you, but some of the breweries in between will surely raise your eyebrows. Either way, the breweries below pulled some serious punches to crank out a whole heap of different beers in 2023.

10. Tired Hands Brewing Company 🇺🇸

Kicking off our list, Tired Hands Brewing, known for popularizing the milkshake IPA, proves just how creative they can be, posting up to number ten on this list. In fact, if you take a look at the brewery's Untappd page, you'll find a list of 1,605 beers and over 1.6 million ratings all-time! Those are some pretty impressive numbers, so we're not too surprised to see this innovative Pennsylvania-based brewery crack the top ten in 2023. Top-rated beers from Tired Hand this year include the 4.47-rated barleywine aged for forty-eight months in freshly emptied Basil Hayden bourbon barrels called A Deal With the Devil (Red - Bourbon).

9. Pizza Port Brewing Company 🇺🇸

Started as just a tiny pizza spot in Solana Beach in 1987, Pizza Port installed a 7-bbl brewing system five years later and never looked back. Over the last thirty years, Pizza Port has grown into a six-taproom dynasty in Southern California. One of the most award-winning breweries in history with over one hundred medals racked up at the Great American Beer Festival alone, Pizza Port excels at the classics—American IPA, DIPA, session IPA, American amber, blonde ale, Czech pilsner, coffee porter, American pale ale, and so much more.

8. Ziemia Obiecana 🇵🇱

We'll admit that we hadn't heard about this Polish brewery before they slid into eighth on our list. But a bit of research showed us that Ziemia Obiecana has become one of the most revered breweries in Poland by sheer will and talent. Started by Łukasz Kierski in 2016, Ziemia Obiecana, which translates to The Promised Land, grew slowly but surely. With a focus on IPAs, sours, and what the brewery calls "comfortable ales," Ziemia Obiecana has now definitely become a brewery we'll be watching and paying attention to in 2024. Some of the brewery's highest-rated beers this year included the Melancholia fruited sour with blackcurrant, passionfruit, and banana. And the crazy 4.2-rated Aaaaajezussmarrriaaaa fruited sour with pineapple, strawberries, and coconut.

7. Modern Times Beer 🇺🇸

Modern Times may have downsized their taprooms across the West Coast over the past couple of years, but that hasn't meant they've pulled back the lever on cranking out different beers. Case in point, slipping into the seventh spot on this list. Craft 'Ohana, which now owns Maui Brewing and Modern Times, ranks as the 28th biggest brewery in the country, according to the Brewers Association, so we suppose a spot on this list makes sense. And all time, Modern Times has racked up 1,742 beers and over 2.1 million ratings from our Untappd community. Top beers this year included a 4.78-rated imperial pastry called Modern Tones Double Campfire Wild Beekeeper Edition and a 4.71-rated Molto Monster Affogato imperial stout.

6. Prairie Artisan Ales 🇺🇸

Celebrating over a decade in business this year, Prairie Artisan Ales has made a name for itself by dropping 'Bomb!' beers, if you know what we mean! Starting in Oklahoma, Prairie has expanded to selling beers in over forty states in the U.S., all across Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia. In the Untappd community, Prairie has dropped 1,102 beers all-time and racked up just shy of 2.4 million ratings. Now a worldwide brand, it's no surprise to see this humble brewery, making some of the world's most iconic stouts and innovative sours, almost slip into one of the top five spots on this list. Mic drop. And maybe next year!

5. Pinthouse Brewing 🇺🇸

Founded by six guys who just loved food and beer above all else, Pinthouse Brewing made a name for itself in Austin, TX, for all things hoppy. The brewery obsessed over these little green cones, delivering award-winning beers, including Fully Adrift Double IPA, Nomura DIPA, Green Battles IPA, and, of course, the famous Electric Jellyfish with Citra, Simcoe, Chinook, Ekuanot, Azacca, and Galaxy. But Pinthouse doesn't stop there, brewing up delectable, award-winning stouts as well. Case in point: Two of the brewery's top-rated beers of 2023 come from its Jaguar Shark Deep Search series, an imperial stout collab with Green Check Beer Co. that hit 4.48 on Untappd and another 4.27-rated one with Cerebral Brewing. Constant innovation is key for the first brewery to crack the top five on this list.

4. Polly's Brew Co. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Welcome to Wales! Founded in 2018, Polly's started in an old, rickety stable but has grown into a space twelve times bigger. And now they're making more beers to match, firing up the mash tuns at least eight times a week for all things pale and hoppy. So it makes sense that Polly's falls into fourth on this list. Despite the rustic beginnings, Polly's still lives by this ethos of "never stop improving," according to their website. If that's true, we expect they might move up a couple of notches on this list next year! Some of the brewery's top beers this year ranged from a 4.37-rated imperial stout called Quinquennium Reserve to a triple hazy called Moonlight Talons

3. Croma 🇧🇷

We're so amazed by the breadth of breweries from all around the country that ended up on this list this year. Croma is no exception. Based in São Paulo, Brazil, this microbrewery touts in its Untappd description that "Limitless passion leads us to produce limitless beers." Since they posted up in the third spot on this list, it seems like that's almost true! With a heavy focus on hazies, Croma represents the future of craft beer in Brazil, kicking out tons of hoppy and dark delights. For instance, the 4.7-rated Happily Ever After BBA imperial stout with fresh, raw, and toasted coconut, and the 4.5-rated BBA barleywine Flip Flops

2. Stone Brewing 🇺🇸

Ranked as the seventh largest craft brewing company in the country, according to the Brewers Association, Stone Brewing lands second on this list of the most beers created in 2023. Missing out on the number one spot by less than forty beers, Stone continues to grow, announcing its partnership with Sapporo U.S.A. last year. All time, Stone has dropped 1,442 beers on Untappd that have amassed an incredible 8.3 million ratings! We've come to love Stone classics like the Enjoy By series and Delicious IPA but were excited to see the return of the Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA last year and the Mexican hot chocolate-inspired stout Xocoveza this year.

1. Tree House Brewing Company 🇺🇸

Surprise, surprise. Tree House retains its title from last year as the brewery with the most beers created in 2022 and 2023. All time on Untappd, this Charlton-based brewery has recorded 1,122 beers with over 4.5 million ratings! A brewery with deep roots in craft beer, Tree House continues to cement its legacy as one of the top breweries in the country. This year (and many years), you'll also find classics like King Julius and King JJJuliusss on Untappd's list of the Beers With the Most 5-Star Check-Ins in 2023. People rank Tree House number one for a reason. Just like a tree itself, Tree House's legacy will outlive us all! We'll make a not-so-bold prediction that we'll see this brewery holding down the number one spot on this list for years to come.
