The 25 Best Lagers of 2022
We went over the top with this one. Why? Because we love lagers! And also because we celebrate National Lager Day on December 10, 2022.
We've asked this question a few times, but it bears repeating here: When will it officially be the year of the lager? Was it 2022? Will it be 2023?
For now at least, we can confidently say that December 10 is the day of the lager.
So yes, we asked the app to spit out this list including all lagers. We're talking everything: American lager, Japanese rice lager, Mexican lager, Vienna lager, India pale lager, pale lager, amber lager, American amber/red lager, dark lager, Munich Dunkel, Dortmunder/export, bock, doppelbock, weizenbock, eisbock, maibock, märzen, rauchbier, helles, kölsch, kellerbier/zwickelbier, pilsner, imperial pilsner, German pilsner, Italian pilsner, Czech pilsner, and anything in between.
But what we found so interesting is that, out of all those categories, the most highly rated you'll find on this list?
Pilsners and their ilk.
Which makes sense because last year, for the first time ever, pilsners cracked the top ten most checked-in styles of the year on the Untappd app, with just over 1 million check-ins. For the record, it was the only lager substyle to make it to the list. But the future impact of lagers on the hop-loving masses remains to be seen.
