NFL Week 8 In Review meets Untappd Data

Responsive image

As some NFL stadiums are allowing more fans to attend games, we've seen an uptick in check-ins at stadiums over the past few weeks. Check-ins have more than doubled since the start of the season, and Week 8 actually featured the most check-ins at stadiums across the league that we've seen all year! Of course, not everyone gets to the game or feels comfortable attending due to obvious concerns, so keep checking in safely at home and make your own living room or man/woman cave a stadium of one for the game!

Each week, we'll take a look at the previous week of games, and take a look at the intersection of Untappd check-ins and data and NFL teams, cities and stadiums! Whether your team wins or loses, join in on the fun!

Thursday Night Recap

The Atlanta Falcons pulled out its second win of the year on Thursday night on the road in Carolina, dropping the Panthers to 3-5. On the field, the Falcons won 25-17, but did the city of Atlanta beat the city of Charlotte on Thursday night for a win in the Untappd battle? They did not. If you were to draw a 10 mile radius around that team's stadium, there were nearly 200 more check-ins in Charlotte than Atlanta.

Carolina had some fans in the stands on Thursday night, despite the windy and wet conditions, and while Jon, Harrison and myself were enjoying Wicked Weed's Pernicious in the confines of our homes, there were plenty of fans in the stands [safely] enjoying some Bank of America staples as well!

Brent enjoyed the beer of our first virtual tailgate at Thursday night's game against the Falcons!

While Pernicious is one of the most checked in beers at Bank of America Stadium, Rick went with the most checked-in beer at the home of the Panthers! This sounds like a beer that pairs perfectly with burgers, hot dogs and cornhole pre-game!

Top City

With the same parameters mentioned above, the Jets had the most check-ins! The Giants played on Monday night, so you can loop them in as well here, but East Rutherford and New York led the way in check-ins on football Sunday! Interestingly enough, the beers that were checked in with great frequency all have an elevated ABV. Is it because it's been a rough year for Jets fans? Well, and Giants fans for that fact. Is it because of another loss on Sunday? Two of the three most popular beers in the area from Sunday have an ABV at eight percent or higher!

Top Stadium

For the second time this year, the Kansas City Chiefs had the most check-ins at the stadium for game day. The first time was back in Week 1 against the Houston Texans, and now this week with the New York Jets in town. The Chiefs unsurprisingly beat the Jets to move to 7-1 on the year and look suited to defend their title. Albeit a crisp, and sometimes windy and cold Sunday afternoon, fans were in the stands rooting on their team and enjoying some good beer!

This was discussed on the virtual tailgate on Thursday night, but Worth the Wait was a special limited release by Boulevard Brewing Co. to commemorate Kansas City's championship last year. With an ABV coming in at just under 10 percent, not only was Evan Y. enjoying the beer and the story behind it, but he was likely also using it to help stay warm!

Daniel H. was not alone with this beer by Golden Road Brewing on Sunday. The Chiefs Kingdom Blonde Ale was the most popular beer on Sunday and the description he provided for the beer was similar to what many Kansas City fans thought of the game after it was over. "Lightly competitive, super easy." Sorry, Jets fans.

Monday Night Recap

With no fans in the stands, the Giants nearly pulled it out on Monday night against the Bucs on the gridiron, but in terms of Untappd check-ins, Tom Brady was no match for Daniel Jones and East Rutherford, NJ and the northwest part of New York. There were nearly six times as many check-ins there compared to Tampa Bay! Next week, we have an AFC East showdown on Monday night with the New England Patriots coming to square off against the New York Jets.

Want to have your check-in potentially featured in next week's article? Whether you're at home, in your man/woman cave or at the stadium, tag me in your check-in and mention your favorite team!

We'll be back next week to recap Week 9 of the NFL season, but until then, may your team win and drink safely, socially and responsibly!

ICYMI, check out the Virtual Tailgate on Drinking Socially Live from last Thursday.
