NFL Week 16 In Review Meets Untappd Data
I hope you enjoyed the holiday and spent quality time with friends and family. If you're like me, you found time for some tasty brews and enjoyed some football on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and/or Monday! The playoff picture is becoming more clear and we have just one week left in the regular season before heading to playoffs!
Each week, we'll take a look at the previous week of games, and take a look at the intersection of Untappd check-ins and data and NFL teams, cities and stadiums! Whether your team wins or loses, join in on the fun! Also, check out the new comment feature to continue the dialogue and let us know what team you were rooting for and what you were drinking!
Alvin Kamara and the New Orleans Saints, well, mostly Alvin Kamara beat the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas day. Kamara's six rushing touchdowns tied an NFL record but it ultimately wasn't enough to win the Untappd matchup, as Minnesota blew out New Orleans in terms of check-ins. In fact, only five cities had more check-ins than Minnesota in Week 16!
The day after Christmas featured three games, starting with Tom Brady and the Bucs facing off against the Detroit Lions. This game was over shortly after it started. The Bucs went on to win 47-7, and they more than doubled the city of Detroit in terms of check-ins on Saturday.
The next game was slightly more exciting. I mean, at least it was close! C.J. Beathard tossed three touchdowns and outdueled Kyler Murray. Just like the earlier game, the winning city more than doubled the losing city in terms of check-ins. The winning teams on the field are also 2-0 off the field. Do we get a perfect 3-for-3?
The first 55 minutes of this game were boring, but the last five were absolutely wild. Rookie Tua Tagovailoa was benched for veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Fitzpatrick sprinkled some of that Fitzmagic for an improbable win. To make a long story short, Josh Jacobs didn't pound the rock into the end zone on second down, in effort to take some additional time off the clock. Rather than going for the touchdown, the Raiders opt to play for the field goal. When you play to "not lose" rather than to win, things have a weird way of not working out. Well, a deep completion with a penalty tacked on afterwards put Miami in a position to win, and the field goal attempt sailed through the uprights. It was a wild ending to say the least. However, Miami couldn't best Las Vegas in terms of check-ins, so we have to settle for a 2-1 record for winning teams on the Untappd gridiron.
The City of Brotherly Love takes the cake, or fruitcake if we are being festive, in Week 16. The colder temperatures in the northeast over the holidays opened the door for some holiday favorites in and around Philadelphia, most notably with the beloved Mad Elf by Troegs Independent Brewing. It's the most popular beer over the last two weeks around Philadelphia, per Untappd check-ins, and it was featured on a recent episode of the Drinking Socially podcast!
I don't want to brag, but I was able to get my hands on some recently, and it never disappoints!
For the fourth time this year, Arrowhead Stadium led the way in check-ins. Albeit a less than stellar offensive showing, the Chiefs pulled out a victory against the Atlanta Falcons. The Chiefs are a perfect 4-0 when leading in check-ins for a given week and no stadium has led a given week in check-ins more than Arrowhead Stadium.
Monday Night Recap
Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs were too much for New England. Diggs had more receiving yards than the Patriots had passing yards, and was a couple grabs away from having more receiving yards than New England had total yards! While the score on the field was far from close, it was a different story in terms of Untappd check-ins. Buffalo squeaked by New England there, so off the field, Bills Mafia notched another big victory.
Merry Christmas brunch beer, everyone! Gingerbread base stout has a nice maple complement to the fresh spices and warming booziness. 🎄 🍻

A festive beer that sounds delicious and is a great liquid appetizer for the before main course of afternoon football and family time!
Got this really cold, anticipated more orange, smooth and sweet but so far more like unsweetened grapefruit, little bite and little hop. All and all not bad🙂🍺

Big win for Commander's Dolphins!
Will the Jets blow the game or blow the draft? 4th quarter questions!

Since the start of last year, the Jets have nine wins. Five of those wins have come in the month of December!
The beer is mauve, the Jets are winning and they have won two in a row!
A "revival" may not have occurred, but a win is a win, and the Chiefs have secured a first-round bye.
It's crazy to think that the Bears are one of the league's hottest offenses over the last few weeks. Yes, a Mitch Trubisky-led offense is the third-highest scoring in the league over the past three weeks. Wow.
Not an ideal showing for the Eagles in Week 16 and more questions face the Eagles moving forward…
A Mad Elf around the holidays is a no-brainer!
You were warm, but the fans in the snowy stands likely weren't! Big win for the Packers!
Packer game beer!💛💚 Seattle did us a favor beating the Rams, but a win would be nice tonight! Tonight's beer is another legit hazy from Brewing Projekt, including my favorite Idaho 7 hop, along with Mosaic, and Moutere. Very bitter finish.

Lambeau in the snow is never an easy place to play. Big win for the Pack as they control their destiny for a first-round bye.
