New Badge: World Pint (2023)
"All roads lead down under!" We wish we could follow the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 motto. But in place of actually making it to this year's host countries—Australia and New Zealand—we'll drink some beers (at least two, to be exact) from different participating countries to earn our new "Women's World Pint 2023" badge.
Thirty-two teams from countries worldwide will compete in sixty-four matches during the ninth edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup, taking place between Australia and New Zealand from Jul. 20, 2023, to Aug. 20, 2023.
Hosted quadrennially in a different city, traditionally, the Women's World Cup is considered the world's most prestigious professional soccer tournament.
This year's tournament, in particular, has headlines galore:
- This will be the first time the tournament expanded to include 32 countries (the same as the men's competition).
- With the expansion, many new teams will debut in the tourney, including Vietnam, Zambia, Haiti, Morocco, Panama, the Philippines, Portugal, and the Republic of Ireland.
- Back-to-back winners, the United States seeks history by winning a third title.
- Speaking of the U.S. team, stalwart Megan Rapinoe announced she'll retire after the 2023 National Women's Super League season, ending a 17-year career that included two Women's World Cup Titles and advocating for equal pay between the U.S. Women and Men's National Teams.
- Reigning 2020 Olympic champions, Canada will be led by the surefire foot of Christine Sinclair, whose 190 goals tally the most scored by an individual player in women's football (and beats Cristiano Ronaldo, who holds the title for the men)
- Other teams to watch: England, Brazil, Zambia, the Philippines, and Australia.
Bringing together the most talented players worldwide, the Women's World Cup allows some seriously studly athletes to strut their stuff for their country.
It's a tournament of pride, tradition, and camaraderie.
Hmm…kind of sounds similar to craft beer.
Consider this tournament similar to the World Beer Cup, an international competition celebrating the best beer globally.
Really the only difference is that at the Women's World Cup, athletes mostly use their feet…
And at the World Beer Cup, brewers mostly use their hands!
Are you ready to drink in this beautiful game, literally?
To earn the "World Pint (2023)" badge: Check-in any two (2) different beers from different participating countries between July 20 and August 21, 2023.
