Let's get one thing clear. Maximus IPA (9% alc./vol.) is our take on a double IPA, but pssst, it's closer to being a 1.5x IPA.

What's this mean? Well, it's just semantics for those that get a little particular about the numbers. But in general, it doesn't change the effect that Maximus Colossal IPA delivers: a bitter and malty brew for the hop-happy among us.

When Lagunitas Brewmonster Jeremy Marshall talks about Maximus, the first thing he cites is the winning triad of hops that make this brew what it is. It's not just throwing Simcoe, Cascade and Centennial in a pile knowing they play well together.

That's just the start.

With certain hops comes bitterness. And like kudzu on a stone wall, bitter is a beast that can overtake any flavor situation. That's why balance matters. In Maximus, equilibrium arrives in the form of malted barley. Which we add by the boatload. There's a method to the madness of making excellent beer, and for us that means adhering to classic Lagunitas brewing techniques—hello, high mash temps— which are intentionally designed to make for a lot of body and a "chewy mouthfeel" (Brewmaster speak 101.)

So, there you have it, a peek behind the curtain of our newly spiffed up Maximus Colossal IPA, available year round in sixers, 19.2's and on draught. Hop heaven for hop heads.
