From the funky Austin to the vibrant Dallas to the blooming Houston and everywhere in between, the second biggest state in the country has so many places to visit fantastic breweries. Regardless of where you are in the Lone Star State, one thing is for sure: Texas craft beer has filled some massive-sized cowboy boots.

Saying everything's bigger in Texas is an understatement. Especially when it comes to craft beer. Just over the past half decade, we've seen Houston become a hub for breweries excelling at bringing the hazy IPA craze to the south. In fact, breweries in the fourth largest city in America have been cranking out so many perfectly executed NEIPAs that the city has even earned the nickname 'Juiceton.' Many trace Houston's love of hazy IPA to Larry Koestler, a craft beer aficionado who contributes to the Houston Beer Guide. In 2017, Koestler challenged local breweries to adopt the popular turbid Northeastern style. Since then, breweries such as Ingenious, SpindleTap, Lone Pint, and more rose to the challenge, developing cult-like followings around their opaque fruit bombs. Along with a bevy of creative takes on milkshake IPAs, pastry stouts, and more. 

And in Dallas, the city has morphed into a modern, tech-focused Metroplex (yes, this is a real word that Dallasites use to describe the Dallas and Fort Worth metro area). Subsequently, the craft beer scene has transformed as well with over sixty breweries specializing in everything from decadent dessert stouts to coveted hazy IPAs. Surprisingly, North Texas really only made its mark on craft beer in 2004 with the launch of Rahr & Sons Brewing Company in Fort Worth. Since then, the number of breweries has slowly increased, with 17 breweries opening in 2019 alone. Today, Dallas' beer scene is humming. 

Our friends at Hop Culture took notice of the Lone Star State's legendary influx of breweries. This year they named their five best breweries to visit in Houston and five best breweries to visit in Dallas.
