Alex’s Life is a special blend made in honor of our pal Alex Kidd (@dontdrinkbeers). Alex was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer recently and the collaborating brewers put our heads together on how we could make a benefit beer to raise money for Alex and his family. Alex is a huge fan and supporter of the Barleywine style, so we all decided to make a big blend in his honor.

The Veil, Side Project, Other Half, Monkish, Trillium, and Evil Twin NYC all selected our oldest Barleywine aging in various Bourbon barrels from our respective barrel inventories and blended them for a one-of-a-kind offering. Ranging from 10-37 months and clocking in at 15.2%, Alex’s Life is an incredibly complex blend of English-style Barleywines aged in Bourbon barrels. Notes of sticky toffee, sweet dates, plump vanilla beans, clover honey, charred oak, moist tobacco and leather. Il risultato è una birra dai profumi e dai sapori decisi, ma allo stesso tempo delicati. Color oro rosso carico, priva di schiuma e gasatura, al naso offre sentori di frutta secca, ciliegia sotto spirito e tabacco macerato. In bocca gli aromi di vaniglia contrastano con la sensazione piccante, quasi di cuoio, tipica del Kentucky.
ENGLISH - Teo ventures again into the world of macro-oxidation. This new exploration of taste starts from Xyauyù Oro, combined with a product of the best Italian farming: Kentucky tobacco. Using a cold infusion technique, tobacco is added to the oak barrels where the beer is kept. A unique beer is obtained, with strong and at the same time delicate scents and tastes, reminiscent of the atmosphere of past days. It has a clear, dark golden red color with brownish hues. When poured, it has no head and no gas. Scents of dried fruit and cherries in alcohol, while the sweet aroma of macerated tobacco stands out. The taste is a perfect balance between the malty flavors and the taste of tobacco. Hints of vanilla contrast the typical tangy, almost leathery notes of tobacco. A blend of tastes which gives this beer a bitter, dry finish. Read Less

Like all STARVE variants, STARVE: Exhibit H is a complex one-off blend that will never be replicated. Clocking in at a massive 18.5% ABV, it’s a bold, boozy sipper for sure. It’s the first time STARVE has ever been entirely a Barleywine, and it deserves a breakdown that won’t fit on the label.

- 40% is our cherished Circle of Wolves, first aged 24 months in French Cognac casks, then another 36 months in Willett bourbon barrels.
- 40% is a brand new unnamed high gravity Maris Otter Barleywine that chilled for 22 months in precious Sam Adams Utopias barrels.
- The final 20% is that same Maris Otter Barleywine, but aged 22 months in Weller bourbon barrels.

After blending those hand-selected threads in January of 2023, we filled fresh Willett barrels with the awesome blend for 16 more months of marrying and mellowing.

With portions aged over 6 years and 3 years respectively, this is an extremely well-cellared and distinctive Barleywine. Read Less

The fusion of extended-aged, double barrel Straight Jacket and Ryeway to Heaven, each embellished with new French oak, is then finished with a surgical strike of sweet and tart cherries. A familiar and satisfying progression into metered extremity.

ITALIANO - Una birra viva ad alta fermentazione che incontrando l’aria pura delle Langhe e riposando per lungo tempo è divenuta un prodotto nuovo, unico. All’aspetto si presenta limpida, priva di schiuma e gasatura, con un colore intenso, di tono ambrato carico e riflessi ramati. Al primo naso esprime grande intensità, emergono sentori di frutta secca e canditi con importanti e armoniose note che ci riportano al vino Madeira.
ENGLISH - Xyauyù is a living, top-fermented beer which – after being exposed to the air of the Langhe area and resting for a long period of time – becomes a new and unique product. When poured, it has no head and no gas; it has a clear, full amber, brownish color with copper reflections. Xyauyù Kioke è una birra che unisce due grandi tradizioni artigiane legate al mondo della fermentazione: l’arte di produrre birra artigianale, incontra l’arte di produrre salsa di soia artigianale.
Kioke è una botte priva di chiusura, in legno di Cipresso, prodotta in Giappone, nell’isola di Shodo da Yasuo Yamamoto (Yamaroku Shoyu) in cui fermenta la soia. Xyauyù nasce in Italia, a Piozzo, nel birrificio agricolo Baladin, dal desiderio di Teo Musso di esplorare l’universo delle ossidazioni.
La birra, già fermentata e maturata per oltre 18 mesi, viene affinata “a cielo aperto” in una botte di Kioke nuova in cui non è stata fermentata la soia e che le dona note resinose di Cipresso e una leggera sfumatura acida, creando un profilo aromatico unico e originale.

Xyauyù Kioke combines two great craft traditions in the world of fermentation: the art of beer making meets the art of producing craft soy sauce.
The Kioke is an open cypress wooden barrel produced by Yasuo Yamamoto (Yamaroku Shoyu) in Japan, on the island of Shodo, and is used for the fermentation of soy sauce. Xyauyù was created in Piozzo, Italy, at the Baladin farm brewery, from Teo Musso’s desire to explore the universe of oxidation.
The beer, once fermented and aged for 18 months, is open-air matured inside a new Kioke barrel, i.e. which has never been used for the fermentation of soy. The barrel gives resinous cypress notes and a slightly acidic touch, for a unique aromatic profile.

Deep and sexy aromas of molasses and Jamaican dark rum, 10 year tawny port, sticky apricot and brûléed meringue with a dusting of clove are followed by flavors of honey processed coffee, dried cherry, rye loaf crust, date and fig as well as a long lasting barrel char and tobacco finish.
