1832 London Porter (for Pete Brown)

In 1817 there was a new type of malt invented, it was called "black patent malt" and was a game changer for porter brewers wanting to move away from brown malt. This beer is an example of this new era of London Porter. The brown malt has dropped to 15% with the addition of 2% black patent malt to adjust the color. At this time the porter would still have been aged in bats so we aged it in large oak barrels for 8 months with Brettanomyces. This is starting to taste more like a modern porter (other than the wild yeast and oak barrel aging). The smoke character is much lower but still noticeable. Show Less
