Have you ever found yourself eating a spoonful (or more) of delicious peanut butter? Somewhere in the collective American consciousness is this desire for guilty pleasures. If you don’t have an allergy to nuts, then perhaps you know what I’m talking about. After college my roommate’s mother bought him groceries. He (Vaughn) always had food while I was starving on a shoestring budget. So, for basic survival I’d eat out of his peanut butter jar and smooth over my spoon marks. He’d go crazy and tell me to stay out of his stuff! That began my obsession with peanut butter (the 5th food group).
Vaughn’s Peanut Butter is our English Porter. Chocolate and black patent malts are the backbone of this style. This beer features Munich and carapils malts for a little sweetness, better mouth feel and head retention. Style-specific hops impart a nice, but not overpowering bitterness. Then we add natural peanut butter directly to the boil, which gives the beer a nutty and smooth flavor. You can definitely taste the peanut butter, but it’s not overwhelming.
