Rob F: …pretty close to what I was targeting. Honey is more prominent than expected; rye is less so.

Thought I was opening another mead — turns out it was this. Which is of course a delightful surprise.

Sharing some of yesterday's big winner with the Mead Hall family.

Apparently *this* just won me Meadmaker of the Year at the 2017 Noonan Memorial Comp.!?

Comes across somewhat vinous, with subtle honey. Rye gives it some punch. Abv is all there. Thanks RobF!

Aged 3 mo. Shares with team. The time helped the carbonation quite a bit. Seems drier on the finish w/o losing the honey/rye flavor balance.

Happy w/ carbonation level. Still a little vinous. Good balance of malt & honey flavors. Still wish rye & saison notes were more prominent.

I think the carbonation is more/less ready. Turned out pretty well, I think. A bit more vinous than expected.

First one! Another week or two of bottle conditioning should improve the carbonation. Aroma exceeds expectations. Flavor is pretty close…

Rob F: Also expected more peppery notes from the yeast strain. If I did it again, I would ferment at a higher temperature.
Last bottle — one year old! Shared it with my BJCP study group. Rye mellowed a bit, aged nicely.
