18th century Colonial Ale based off of the archeological findings and research by Dan Mouer in Virginia.
Most similar to an English brown porter, a Scottish Wee Heavy, or an Old Ale. It uses traditional English pale malt, with liberal additions of amber and brown malt, and just a subtle hint of smoked malt to recreated the smokiness that would have been added by the older kilning process.
It is a malt-forward beer with big, rich flavors of coffee, toast, chocolate, leather, vanilla, plum, and a subtle hint of smoke. It is very lightly hopped, and a long boil also provided some added sweetness and complexity from caramelization. Show Less
