A bit LCi - 15 January 2010. Me and the late Dave in Sheffield. Was this another variation on a theme? Might assume so as I can find no trace of it. Badged as PARROTS BEAK, 4.1% , a mahogany colour bitter. Noted as excellent anyhow.
Matt L: Should of had the Roger & out!
Norman Wigley: Matt L. Had that in mid 90s but wasn't keeping any records back then. I had heard about it on Radio Sheffield and me and Dave had to go try it. To find a barley wine of that strength on handpull was unheard of back then I remember they would only serve.
Norman Wigley: ....it in thirds or similar. Looked it up just now on Untappd and saw someone had been given a certificate. We never got one! Can't remember much about the ale now except it was much as you'd expect if a decent barley wine. Strength of it common now.
Matt L: Only ever managed one of those, never the three to achieve the certificate. Used to taste like bitter with a vodka chaser back then but I'm pretty sure I'd find it a bit more palatable nowadays!
Norman Wigley: Matt L. Didn't know you had to EARN your certificate! We only had the one so that would be it. Yes would also love to try it again. I see that last year the old Gold Label Barley Wine has been rebrewed under the Kelham Island name.but not found it yet

Cask, pint. Sold here as triple C. Half a click off being taken back, it was that on the turn, but as we're celebrating a friend's birthday and it's his tab felt churlish...
I hope this is indeed the Didsbury Dozen house ale served here. It's quite dark in colour and tastes malty with a whiff of toffee. Not bad.
