Tiled Kilt

Tilted Kilt is a traditional, Scottish-style, light and sessionable pub ale, historically referred to as a “60 shilling.”

This beautiful, copper-colored ale was crafted with a foundation of Scottish-grown Golden Promise barley malt layered with a carefully selected variety of flavor-enhancing specialty grains.

A portion of the mash was vorlaufed and transferred to the kettle before complete starch conversion was finished and then boiled while the remaining mash rested for a prolonged period. This technique was used to maintain body and mouthfeel in an otherwise “small” beer and also to provide a depth of tasty caramelization and Maillard aromas and flavors.

A small hop addition was added to the kettle for improved drinkability, ensuring the beer’s finish is relatively dry while still delivering plenty of malt-forward flavors.

This malt-tilted brew was fermented on the cooler side with a classic Scottish Ale yeast strain and then conditioned cold in a brite tank for additional weeks before packaging.

Tilted Kilt was canned with liquid nitrogen so we recommend “Smash Pouring” it straight downward into a proper pint glass after a few gentle rolls. After pouring, the tiny nitrogen bubbles will cascade upwards in mesmerizing fashion, forming a glorious, sturdy head of long-lasting, off-white colored foam that will cling to the inside of your glass with each gulp.
