Three On A Match

Three on a match was a superstition among soldiers in the muddy Belgian trenches of World War I. Matches were in short supply so were often shared. The superstition goes that if a match was struck in the trenches shared the first man would alert a sniper, the second would give him a chance to aim and third would take the shot.
