Patrick Arsenault: Chris C.that’s a characteristic of American barleywine. I actually started with a vert of 2012-2015 and the ‘12 was still bitter. I prefer an English barleywine way more than American.

Still big and bold. Nutty, raisin, caramel, toffee, and bready. It has a little earthy herbal characteristic and is nicely bitter. This has aged well and it could easily have kept goi g for years…I’m impatient sometimes.

Tasty! Equally floral & orange-zesty aged hops lead, w/ robust roasted caramel, fig, & faint honey-wheat bread mid-taste, & resin, surprisingly easy-to-miss mellow grapefruit, & even subtler touch of pine late. Aging nicely @4 years. 4.2.
Tad T: I'd assumed SN had this recipe down to a T, but this vintage didn't do it for me quite as well as so many of its predecessors. Less bready, more caramelly, & uncharacteristically weak on bitterness. Will revisit in another year.

Opened the bottle in Januaty 2024. This has aged well with hints of dates and figs and a mild bitterness that works well with the flavors.
