The Mentor

Billy and his gang weren't really full time crooks, they were also a bunch of hardworking cowboys who weren't afraid to get their boots and hands dirty. They found employment under John Tunstall, who was against violence himself, but needed someone to protect his property against local gangs. Even though they were very different in nature, Tunstall wasn't just Billy's employer but became also his role model, his mentor in life!
Tunstall was murdered by a rival rancher and Billy promised to get everyone involved in the deed. This, in fact, is considered the beginning of the Lincoln County War.
