“On the night of 14 March 2025, under the skies of Nelson, New Zealand, Egger’s Hops were harvesting during a rare celestial event—a full blood moon and total lunar eclipse occurring together. Over a single 24-hour window, the hops were gathered at the precise moment when the moon’s gravitational pull, lunar light, and unique eclipse spectrum combined to create
conditions unlike any other harvest in memory.

For centuries, cultures around the world have believed that crops harvested under a full moon hold greater vitality, abundance, and energy. Modern plant science is beginning to confirm this: sap flow and metabolic activity often peak at the full moon, while the eclipse’s red-shifted light
adds a rare signal of transformation. In short—these hops are culturally meaningful, scientifically intriguing, and genuinely unique.”

This is an international collaboration with select breweries working together with Eggers Hops to showcase the quality, and story of this once-in-a-lifetime harvest.

Ōturu meaning “Full Moon” to the Māori indigenous people of New Zealand, is our showcase of this rare hop harvest. A DDH New England Style Double IPA, coming in at 8% ABV, and absolutely saturated with Eggers Full Moon Harvest at every stage. Accents of Eggers Motueka and Eggers Special hops bring added depth and roundness to the beer. Ōturu pours exceptionally bright and dense, and drinks quaffably soft and juicy. Dripping with notes of overripe tropical fruit, sweet gooseberries, kaffir lime, slight diesel edges, and an overall reminiscent of Juicy Fruit gum. Simply “Bloody amazing since always.” Show Less
