For our first year anniversary of federal and state licensing I wanted to brew something a little out of the norm. I have always loved the Alt beer style and decided that the Dopplesticke would be a perfect way to celebrate this event.
Using 50% German Vienna malt and 50% German Pilsner malt was an easy place to start. Sticking with the theme I selected German Magnum hops for bittering and German Hallertau Mittelfruh and Hersbrucker hops for aroma and flavoring. The next stop on the journey was yeast town, I went with a traditional Staudt Alt yeast which beautifully showed off the malt and hop character of the beer while providing that the classic German Alt character.
