Gusto: Altbier

German for “old beer,” we brewed this season-appropriate, über-classic, style with a straight up malt salad consisting of: Pilsner, Maris Otter, Munich, and a wee bit of debittered dark malts. Hopped with two German varieties — Perle and Northern Brewer; and fermented cool to accentuate this lager/ale hybrid’s signature clean and crispy finish. We’re picking up wafts of still-warm medium rare croissants, as its complexly bittersweet flavor profile hits us with overtones of homemade trail mix made up of finely-chopped walnuts, the kind of raisin bran that comes in a bag (not a box), dried dates…and whatever snacks taste like the pleasantly spicy and floral flavors we’re getting from these neato hops.
