Velvet Smoke – Smoked Porter by Rogue Ales Brew Master John Maier & Green Dragon Brew Crew
The Green Dragon Brew Crew collaborated with an extraordinary guest this summer – none other than John "More Hops" Maier, Rogue Ales Brew Master and one of the pioneers of the craft beer movement. This was a tremendous honor for the crew and a great opportunity to brew something special.

This Wednesday, October 5th, for our regular, weekly release event we'll be releasing a very limited amount.
This Friday, October 7th, John Maier will be present at the Green Dragon Bistro & Pub for a special tapping and "Meet the Brewer" event with members of the GDBC. Hear from John, and enjoy a pint with a cheese pairing. Both evening's events begin at 5pm.

After nearly 25 years and over 20,000 batches at Rogue, John has pushed a lot of buttons on the big iron so we wanted to go back to the beginning with John and brew a single barrel of a special beer on the nano system. We asked John what kind of beer he wanted to make and without hesitation he replied, "a smoked porter". We started with a simple Robust Porter recipe, and substituted in 70% Beechwood smoked malt, with a touch of home-roasted Alder smoked Munich malt prepared by "More Hops" himself. Horizon and Bullion hops were added and give the beer spicy notes of black currant as well as balancing the smoke and dark malts.

This is an incredibly smooth, velvety rich, smoky porter that will only be available for a short time so don't miss your opportunity to try this one-of-a-kind creation from the Green Dragon Brew Crew and the beard himself, John Maier. Show Less
