The Pecan Tree was adopted as the Texas state tree, when then Governor William Pettus Hobby signed Senate Bill No. 317 on March 20, 1919. The La Bahia Pecan is designated as a “famous tree of Texas” by the Texas A&M Forest Service and tests confirmed that it stood at the time of the Convention of 1836. Texas is the largest producer of native pecans and the Pecan is the only tree nut native to the United States.
