Icarian Bird

This balanced dark lager pours an earthen reddish-brown with lustrous highlights of burgundy and rosewood where the light meets the glass. Our design was to impart a light smoke character from beechwood smoked malt that would integrate with the malt complexity but not dominate the palate. We think we achieved that balance, finding that the early smoke aromas quickly give way to a full gambit of woodsy dark lager characteristics. As the palate adapts, notes of black bread crust, cacao, black trumpet mushrooms, oak leaves, and toasted raisins come forth. A full mouthfeel imbues a heft not otherwise found in a 6.0% beer, and a satisfying interplay between a mild acidic tingle and an earthy bitterness clean up the finish. Show Less
