And finally the pièce de résistance of the evening, Steven's family heirloom 29-year-old precursor to Samuel Adams's Utopias. Very hard to rate bc it is oxidized a bit but on the other hand it's got that creamy sherry texture and a very nice oaky...

Simon Di: Very, very cool. Congrats on getting to try a beer that's as vintage as they come!
Matt K: Simon D. It was definitely a lucky experience. Cheers, Simon!
Matt K: NB: by "strong ale" they don't mean 8% or 10%. This was 17%!!
John Staradumsky: Interesting! I aged these a few times and sometimes got something very similar to what you got, and sometimes soy sauce. Cheers!

So many hints of Utopias here: fortified wine, dates and a noble tartness. Steven, thank you for sharing!!!

Chocolate, PX Sherry, salted peanuts (quite oxidative but in a good way). Sundried black olives. Prunes. Bottarga. Wow. This is my speed 😊
Purchased at Samuel Adams Boston Brewery
SummerDave: WOW, what an awesome beer experience! I collected several of these back in the day, and I always wish I would’ve kept one. Love your description. Cheers Darcy 🍻
Darcy: Cheers SummerDave this was a coin flip as the cork was soaked and almost black. The inspiration for Utopias almost seems obvious when tasting this.

“Shall drink no (beer) past it’s time,” well… it’s 29 yrs old. Touch of chocolate, lot of soy. Nice barleywine, 2nd time around. Thx Tony!

Cork fell apart. Soy sauce, possibly shrimp? Weird as fuck. Cool blue glass bottle.

Not sure if this is a .25 or a 5.0. Chocolate covered raisins with some sherry cardboard. I'll never forget this one. Thanks, Bill!

This is a crazy beer! In a different class than "normal beer". This is more like a fine wine. This 1995 share with my friend was a 17% bomb. Huge flavor of molasses and wine. Big ABV and sweet and satisfying. Very thick.
