The Big 4 is a nickname given to the founding members of the Central Pacific Railroad. Comprised of an engineer, a banker, a politician and a financier, the brilliance of this group of men was in how they were able to work together to leverage their individual strengths to become a collectively formidable team. As a result, the Big 4 used its power and influence to not only complete and manage the railroad but dominate California finance and politics throughout the late 1800s.
